Gregory’s Monday Morning Musings is about pushing beyond the edge of your (preconceived) limits.
This Week’s Focus: Greed and Love
I think of greed and ambition as being interchangeable and so I use the word greed to mean ambition. Similarly, when I write of love I am talking about compassion and care for your fellow human being, a compelling desire to want to see the best happen for your fellow human and you playing your part in bringing that about. So this week’s focus is on”Greed and Love” – and how one cannot truly exist without the other in any great leader, teacher or individual who seeks to positively shape history. Your ambition must be fanned by the flames of a deep and enduring love for your fellow human being, until this happens your impact and your actions will be imbalanced at best and tyrannical at worst.
“To achieve the highest good man’s greed must be balanced with his love for his fellow human; one cannot exist and be truly useful without the other.” – G. Lemmon

This Week’s Focus: Clarity
This is an excerpt from an online presentation I gave recently:
If you are going to achieve anything of worth, then the starting point must be you being clear about your intended outcome. We all know that plans change and things happen to cause us to change directions on the way to our goals. Many of use never start the journey because we are not clear about what we want and where we are going. With just three simple questions you can begin de-clutering your mind, reducing your stress levels and start living a more effective life.
1. What is it that I DO NOT want to experience – Yes I am starting out with the negative first. Most of us find it easier to say or express what we do not want than to clearly and simply state what we do want. Make a bullet list of all the things that you do not want, start here, this will help you to in turn clarify what you DO want to experience and achieve in the next step.
2. What is the end result or experience that I DO want – By looking at the list you created above and going out toward the future you are much better at describing what you really do want to experience. Again make this a bullet list (hint it is easier to just jot down short lists and bullet list are cool).
3. What will the experience of be like if you were to read it or describe it to someone – this is the hard part. What are the emotions that you are feeling as you look around, who is there with you at the point of triumph? Write a short paragraph or two about walking through or living the experience of having reached your outcome. Read it often, it is your story make it exciting so that you want to read over and over like a favourite movie.
This is another example of how to do it.
“You cannot hit a target unless you know what it is…However if your target is nothing, then you can hit it with your eyes closed and without leaving your couch.” – Gregory Lemmon
